Descendants United

Dear bloggers, i noticed a technical issue during postings of your comments. i ask that, you first copy your comment before attempting to post it. You could paste it again if for some reason it did not post. I will edit multiple post with the same subjects from time to time and i will try to paste your comments even late after i am notified of your posting's failure.

current time in KALANSOGOIA  http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=85
I am starting this blog to bring together descendants of Kalansogoia Chiefdom to a common place where we can all exchange ideas on how we as united people can bring positive change to our home town. Recently, Bumbuna has again emerged in the news papers on how we have the largest deposit of Iron Ore in Africa. There is currently a mining company {African Minerals} ready to start mine these minerals. What do we do to ensure, that, i people get the benefit of these minerals? please click on link for details

 http://www.african-minerals.com/Corporate/Operations/Tonkolili_Iron_Ore_Project/default.aspx?id=726

What can we do to ensure that, the land owners never remain in huts as these huge company make millions of dollars from that land? I am suggesting that, for every six town lots mined, an infrastructure be built. Example for the first six lots, a modern hospital be built in the township by the company. For the second set of town lot, a modern computer lab be built. For the third set, a rest house be built. For the forth, an ambulance be provided to the township. For the fifth set, a school bus be provided to serve all schools.

On this other link, you will find all contributions already given by African minerals to the chiefdom. Are those socio development shared evenly to all? What is the land cruiser used for (an ambulance). what about scholarships should they be of a choice or merit. Lets say pa-sories daughter does excellent in school but the chiefdom authorities do not like pa-sorie should pa-sorie's daughter still deserve a scholarship? we used to know that, when you lead a class you become the first to earn a scholarship... lets discuss these we can make an impact.

what are your thoughts lets make some ideas work then we can find a way to implement them.

Here i dedicate this portion to a wonderful person i have always admired. Trivens Kargbo. He is an example of what a leader should be.... he is an example for us all to follow or copy from. How do you feel when you are perfectly comfortable and relatives are struggling without you chipping some how. Trivens has shown the easiest was to do it....follow link below to see for your self.

  2. i think this is great! we should organize to let those CEOs of African minerals know that, we value our land. Anything issued to the chief must be used for those purposes. I heard the Land cruiser donated is now been used for personal purposes by some authority in the chiefdom is it true?

  3. i support the idea for students to earn the scolarships and not be hand picked> this will increase the desire for education in the schools.

  7. SORIE CONTEH FROM AUSTRALIA: This is a very nice medium for us to communicate with each other. we should think of linking this account to facebook so we can create a world wide attention from descendants. This should help us see more that is going on back home. Keep it up!

  11. The chiefdom is in a mess administrative wise the chiefdom people were looking out for a leader instead they got a ruler, whoever manipulated that,GOD alone knows.it will take time to get answers for questions like community radio being personal property.

  12. Dax North florida usa: wow.... that many jobs? i suggest that, 25% of those jobs be guaranteed for the descendants of the chiefdom. Does anyone know if the chiefdom have any representation on the African minerals' board? Are there any plants for the land owners? i think this is a great start forprogress and reorganization of all descendants to return home redevelop our home with our expericne for home and abroad! Great job on the blog!!

Please lets take this as an organization to help our people.

  14. great to see this development. like blake said we should all use this opportunity to unite and be informed of the current ongoings in Bumbuna. May our peolpe gain from this effort.

    ReplyDelete
  15. we don't need this if the people back home are not united, it's just a waste of time and energy from all of us if dictatorship is the rule of law. how are people employed? how are these scholarships awarded? who chooses who and for what? do i have to be a relative or a friend of the ruling party to be considered? do i have to bear the same last name as that of the paramount chief for me to be employed? We have alot of qualified decendants to fill in most of the positions African Minerals are advertising but how many decendants are truely employed? The idea is nice but i hope this will help bring people together instead of dividing them.

  16. Tamba Sesay Washington DC: In my opinion, if African Minerals is adverting falsely, then they should answer to the people. I consider it cheatting if they are not doing what they claim to be doing. But how would they know that we are aware of our rights? A United Front. There is nothing wrong with us in the diaspora to linkup and write petitions on major decisions they make.Remember our people have never tasted the taste of independence so what ever the ruler says is final. But we all know there is also nothing wrong with been an opposition and we will be the ones to help them realize this. But first we have to be a single unit to demostrate to them that, our land is not meant to be exploited only. As for the authorities, we all know that no matter what, they will still have the most piece of cake however, when they see us united, they will caution on the piece they would cut. Can you imagine, an authority built a house in freetown within two years of taking office? Where on earth did he get that money? It also appears from my recent call back home that, the scholarships are treated as personal trust funds just as the community radio and the jeep given to the chiefdom by African minerals. The hospital does not have an ambulance, it does not have beds it does not have medicines why are our rulers not willing to help the poor? more so the descendants? Let us use this media to unit like the fullahs and other groups around the world to make home be home not a jail where everybody is fearful of bully. Those rulers were elected to office to serve the people not to enslave them. when you make a comment i think it is better to state your location just so we all know how wide spread the word is going.

  17. The idea of having a forun for discussion on the net is great. Let us all participate and bring in positive ideas for the development of the Chiefdom. I will also suggest that you view and take part in another dicussion forum on face book which is NTONDAA[ Northern Tonkolili Descendants and Affiliates Association]. Keep the comments flowing and let's keep discussing. Selati

  18. John Conteh Holland: Mr Selati.. i think it will be wise to just get us to concentrate on Bumbuna or Kalansogoia alone. We need to be focused on issues and get issues in better conditions before we talk of district level. I personally think answers on some important allegations that have been raised in this forum will help in transparency. Be it the Radio issue, the newly installed tower by commium which is little or no benefit for the land owners, the move of our people without strong plans in building them at least one or two bedrooms elsewhere, the scholarship program that should be of merit and not of selection, the truck issued to the chiefdom that is now a personal property, the fact that, there are no arrangements for the youth of the chiefdom to be first in employment priority, the fact that when you oppose you are counted an enemy. These are all things that we need to be addressed to make a better chiefdom that we so care about. If anyone knows the answers to these concerns, lets chat on the facts. We should be encouraged to post both good and bad things so we are well informed of the chiefdom. Let's discuss the future and address any misappropriations going on. Let's keep Bumbuna alive.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Thank you John for your comments on my comments. I however think that you've misunderstood my comments. I am talking about Northern Tonkolili (Samaia, Kafe Simiria and Kalansogoia)and not the district. These three entities are highly integrated and intricately reliant on each other.
We can use this forum as a tool for positive discussion or for witch hunting. I view it as a medium that is good for the former. John, in this forum I've not so far seen any comments labelling anybody an enemy. Let us keep it that way. I will encourage all and sundry to ask questions and bring up issues that need discussing. I'll also encourage all those that have links in Bumbuna and elsewhere to post answers to the questions based on research they have conducted. We need to construct our realities on the basis of solid
and truthful facts. My curiosity has already been aroused and I am going to be making some enquiries. Selati, London.

    ReplyDelete
  20. let us discuss the issues guys and just keep the blog in the right focus

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thank you too Mr. Selati, for the response to my comments. I am very confident that, this forum will not only improve communication between us all but will also eventually bring answers to "the issues". Like you rightly lamented, we will continue to highlight those specific areas where we need attention. And the forum does not limit us to negative news from the chiefdom. Nor anything as witch hunting but we all live in the world of freedom of speech where ones opinion or thoughts are not labelled as witch hunting. The unanswered questions from my last remain unanswered. I encourage you to feed us with answers if you do have information on the facts raised by my comments. I candidly will agree also that Samaia, Kafe Simiria and Kalansogoia are all interelated however, we do have the same identical issues in these chiefdoms. Our authorities in Kalansogoia are answerable to Kalansogoia not the other chiefdoms. We are all brothers from a broader point of view but it also reamins that, we need to clean up concerns in OUR chiefdom before we set examples to the others. "Sanity at home can easily be sanity for my neigbhor". It is also the job of MP of northern Tonkolili to coordinate the chiefdoms not us the descendants. All descentdants should concentrate in their chiefdoms and be coordinated by the MP with great examples from any of the chiefdoms. Please Mr Selati, as you conduct your enquires could you also research the following concerns as stated from my comment?

"I personally think answers on some important allegations that have been raised in this forum will help in transparency.

    1. Be it the Radio issue, peolple need a pass from a specific authority to conduct programs in the communitee radio. And this authority is not the manager of radio station but uses his powers to bully?

    2. the newly installed tower by commium which is little or no benefit for the land owners, recently, a tower was installed in the chiefdom where nearly all proceeds where never made public.

    3. Relocation of land owners: the move of our people without strong plans in building them at least one or two bedrooms elsewhere is there any plan to build for these people?

    John Conteh Holland.

    ReplyDelete
  22. continued from point 3.

    4. The African Minerals scholarship program that should be of merit and not of selection we know that currently, people handpick for scholarships is this the correct thing to do?

    5. The truck issued to the chiefdom that is now a personal property. We all know for a fact that, only one person uses these truck for only what "he" thinks is good. Should the truck not be assigned to a committee that manages truma in the case of health emergencies, or school needed occassions?

6.The fact also remain that, there are no arrangements for the youth of the chiefdom to be first in employment priority. Workers with connections come to the chiefdom and get jobs easily with our youth in the township languishing. I thought the chiefdom have records of tax payers that could be easily referenced when filling a position to make sure our tax payers are employed first.

    7. Last of my point, i visited your NOTANDDA site and it was great to see that, finally the township is being electrified but do we all know that, not a single light pole has been installed in the Kalantuba areas? And the most of Salcost is on the Kalantuba side. Does this make it unfair that, no body thought about it? not even the authority that is suppose to govern the chiefdom not just dansogoia? {No had feellings this is just a discussion point.

Finally, i must thank you for using your perspective and persoaanal enquires to fill in this forum on any sincere information on the raised issues. Thank you for continuing to be a concerned descendant.

    John Conteh Holland.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mind you Selati, i assume we should not consider your responses as official responses representing the authority in Bumbuna but a sincere fill-ins as an ordinary descendant who is more informed than anybody else. Let us stay on the issues and we will benefit well in this forum.

  25. Hello good people, this is actually interesting. when are we going to speak up for the voiceless? the above listed concerns by John are definately legetimate concerns that needs answers. I suggest that, the forum find a way to reach out to the authority to get official answers to these patriotic questions. Should we focus on a formal correspondence to the authority in charge for answers? or should we leave it at discussion level only? Either of the two will be ok only that, we need this to create an impact that will benefit our people by at least reducing the abuse of power, bully and tendency for corruption acts. Thanks to the forum and Selati and John are just outstanding in their contributions.

  26. Madam Fatmata thanks for sharing your concern, I will like to let us know that we are seeking for answers to clearify these issues affecting our voiceless people in the Chiefdom, in this forum we are not only talking but taking actions if we dont receive answer. At a certain point, a formal complaint will be reported to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Local Government and Rural Development for clearification. We will sign a petition and send it to the Authority in Freetown.

    Lonta!!!

  27. John you've raised quite a few points in your last contribution and I fully agree with you that the air needs to be cleared in some of these areas. I will implore any one of us who is able to; to make enquiries and furnish us with answers to these.

Your observation about the lighting not being extended to Kalanthuba is right and to the point. It goes to the heart of discussions I had with a cross section of people from Kalanthuba in Dec 2004 in which I lamented the fact that development in that part of the chiefdom was slow. This spurred me into taking the initiative of bringing together Daniel and the P.C. and establishing dialogue between them for the first time after the Chieftaincy elections.

We must all be in constant watch against all that divides us and ensure that development and benefits are generally and evenly shared all over the chiefdom and in my view our sister chiefdoms.

John I'll want you to clarify which truck you are referring to. One second hand land cruiser was given to the three chiefdoms by AM. If that is the one you are referring to, that land cruiser was being driven by Balinka. It was used for low cost transport between Bendugu and Bumbuna. It broke down shortly after it started operations and was taken back to the AM site at Farangbaia where as far as I know it still is.

I'll not finish without acknowledging Fatmata's contribution that we must make sure that these points are brought to the notice of the authorities concerned. I am pretty sure that Mr M. Koroma who is the originator of this forum has plans to that effect.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Mr Selati, i absolutely admire your courage and i guess this forum will benefit greatly from your inputs. Now i will just stay focused this time to the issues you commented on and hope that in the near future we will get inputs on the other issus.

In your writing, you addressed the issue of light into the Kalanthumba side of the chiefdom after a dialogue was broken between the chief and Daniel Turay. This was way back in 2004 since then what has happened? Nothing but sectionalism in my opinion. The people of Kalanthumba continue to be retaliated against by the now chief who is the head of the chiefdom. We all know that all efforts are made to make sure the Kalanthumba side does not get any development. Since day one of Chief Bockarie could anyone name one development that have been directed to Kalanthumba? The radio was installed in Dansogoia, the schools are in Dansogoia, the Hospital, the police station the churches, the mosques, the court Barray, the Chief's house, the land cruiser only travelled between Dansogoia, the satalites and everything else is in Dansogoia. How could the people of Kalanthumba not question the confidence on the chief as their leader? It should be made clear that, Daniel Turay is not Kalanthumba he is a descendant that originated from that area. so for the Kalanthumba side to be in this senario is just going to be unacceptable at some point. When it comes to paying taxes, the people of Kalanthumba are fully in compliance. How many times has the authority held meetings in the Kalanthumba areas? how many times have they visited the Kalanthumba people? But when any of them is invited by the chief they must respond or be fined. Isn't that bullying?

I can not agree more with your statement below
"We must all be in constant watch against all that divides us and ensure that development and benefits are generally and evenly shared all over the chiefdom and in my view our sister chiefdoms". What are we doing to help remove the ideology of sectionalism?

Secondly, it is sad to learn that, the Land cruiser is now dead. But according to you it was ran as an affordable means of transportation between Bendugu and Bumbuna. What did they do with the proceeds of the Land cruiser? none of those were made public and nobody knows the current status on those funds.

As a commitment to Fatmata's comment which you endursed, is there a way you could suggest or notify the P.C of the on going blog dialogue and hope that actions are taken to correct certain obvious concerns. An example will be the relocation of land owners be done in Kalanthumba so that, people can mix in the chiefdom and learn to live with each other as brothers and sisters? That the chief suggest or act on building a major market place in Kalanthumba that will encourage all people to transact in one area? Or should we make the Bumbuna Makeni road to be the main road of traffic to ensure attention is redirected accross the chiefdom? or should we ask for volunteers to help put up poles for power in Kamankay at least we could even ask descendants from the diaspora to help fund the project. These are all areas taht needs to be addressed. I must end for now by making it clear that, i am not from Kalanthumba but i see Kalansogoia as a chiefdom with one people. I was born in Bumbuna town and i see unity as the answer to poverty.

thank you so much for being an example of Democracy!!

  29. The creation of the blog is a great idea but must be utilised positively with the sole aim to make descendants know that they have a moral duty to contribute to the socio-economic development of the entire chiefdom. The leadership has a big role to make that happen as leadership is stewardship. In a situation where the leadership lack vision the people perish. Great leaders have been known to be visionaries.
I always ask myself the question "What have done or contributed to the development of the chiefdom"? No matter what you are or where you are, the chiefdom contributed immensely to making you what you are or where you are. We all have to put aside all petty jealosies and come together with an open mind to accept our faults and work on the view that evry individual in that chiefdom is important and has a role to play in the development of the chiefdom.
More in my next comments'. Daniel Sara Turay

  30. For the past three years i have been working on the concept of "ATTITUDINAL CHANGE". I concept i firly believe in and see it as the way forward for our chiefdom. We all have to change the way we do things, the way we treat each other and above all we have to be convince about each others role been important in the development of the chiefdom. Everybody is important. Daniel Sara Turay

  31. Wow.... great to see such a move in bringing people together. I see this an exceptional move to bring us together as one people. But as suggessted by others, we should make a steady attempt to use this medium to not only inform the rest of the audience of happenings back home, but to also notify the authorities in Bumbuna that, the voices of the voiceless will soon be heard. By that i mean, we will organize in all corners of the world to make sure our people are not maginalized. We will organize to let people know that, slavery lasts for years but freedom will endure forever. I encourage the administrator of this blog to find a way of letting the authority back home know that, we are all in close look at how our resources and people are treated. I encourage the editor, to make a single page for each of the issues noted by John Conteh's comments and encourage an input that will then be forwarded to the authorities in Freetown if issues are not addressed by the chief and his staff. John Conteh's points are all legitimate concerns that require to be addressed and as a result, must be brought forth to the authorities in Bumbuna for answers. I will suggest that we contact a legal adviser that will put these in ink and paper, send copies to all parties concerned and dispatch to the chief with specific requests for his actions in addressing those issue. If nothing is done by him, the we shall follow the chain of command and bring this issues to the highest level of the law. Let us keep Bumbuna alive by becoming voices for the voiceless.

Enough is enough let the authority in Bumbuna work for the unity of the chiefdom, let them be willing to accommondate others, let them embrace thier former contenders, let them make Bumbuna a place for all again.

Stand up for the poor, the journey has just started!

  32. In response to John's questioning of electricity not been extended to Kalanthuba I must inform readers of these contributions that while we are making this discussion work on the electrification is on going and hasn't been completed. As a result we should not consider what work has been done as final. Electrification is at present being carried out in Kamankay.

I would like to observe to this forum that our P.C. is of very high integrity and intellect. We are all his subjects and he knows that. He will certainly listen to anyone one of us that wants to talk with him and he does want to work with any of us that will positively engage with him regarding the development of our Chiefdom. So let us do that.

According to some of the contribution here it looks to me that a lot of us are about three to four years behind in the information we have of our HOME. This looks to me like we have not been in constant and meaningful touch with our people. The first step in caring for our people should be constant engagement with them. We shouldn't abandon them or limit our contact to a just a small conclave. This will be manifested when people start getting answers to some of the questions that are being posed here. I am so far not seeing much of that.

John you are coming up with a plathera of accusations against the PC. I can see more development in Kalanthuba now than has been for a long time. I have seen the resettlement of people displaced by dam's construction and I know houses were built for them. There are also one or two health centers, an expansion of Kamankay with modern houses, a new guest house in Kamankay. The way forward is to recognize these and help push forward for more. Progress is being made and will be accelerated when we acknowledge it. The people over there are not sleeping. Let us respect their efforts. More anon.

  33. Finally, preparations are on the way to tackle these issues directly with the P.C then hope that, he will see the need for an inclusive administration. And consequently an even disperse of benefits from our chiefdom. Lets keep Bumbuna Alive!!

KEEP BUMBUNA ALIVE IS AN ORGANISATION THAT WE MUST DEVELOPE FOR US DECENDANT TO BRING IN GOOD IDEAS AND POST THEM.

Mr, Selati I will like to thank you for the good job you are doing in UK help your brothers and sisters from in all form, your leadership has been felt by many.

We in the United States need someone like you (Selati) but it is difficult, I will appreciate if you can propose to this forum what we can do to help our people.

    Thanks

  35. I must express my humble gratitude for your recognition of whatever little I am doing here with our brothers and sisters from Bumbuna to help each other. The reason for which this has been possible is that; all of us who hail from Bumbuna are an extremely special species. We love each other and always think the best for one another. We are held together by a bond so strong that we are able to do anything. We must recognize this unique strength that we have and exploit it's advantages to the utmost heights.

In my last contribution I suggested that we keep in regular contact with our people at home and that we keep this contact as broad as possible. Today I will suggest that where ever you are in diaspora, establish contact with your brothers or sisters that are around you. Celebrate with them when they are celebrating, mourn with them when they are mourning. Be an integral part of them and then you can all rise up together and unite with a huge force to help our people.

We also do have elders here like Brother Mohamed who will definitely help lead the way.

  36. Fellow Descendants, i hope some of you have received the letter written by Mohamed Koroma to the Provincial Secretary (P/S) in which he expressed his disatisfaction on the manner in which the PS handled the matter between Ibrahim Koroma section chief of Sonkonie and the Paramount Chief. In the same letter, he gave highlights on alleged corrupt activities of the Paramount.
Please Selati is there a way you can contact the Paramount Chief to verify the issues raised to make some of us have a balance mind. Also help us with the contact details of the Paramout Chief so that we can have an opportunity to talk to him directly.
Thank you for all your contributions.

  37. From recent posts it seems we all are in line to building a strong and reliable coalition. I am very impressed at this move. However, it remains a big part of unity for us to have an open and reconcilable leader in the township of Bumbuna itself. Leaders lead by examples and Selati you are an outstanding leader in UK we know that much and we applaud you for that. But the current paramount chief is a complete opposite of you. Although he is educated, he remains a ruler by the books not a leader and this is not good for what we all wish for the Chiefdom. As we move forward in organizing in the Diaspora, I personally that you give him a piece of your leadership attitude and have him just revisit himself. An example will be for him to call on all stakeholders in Bumbuna/Sierra Leone and announce a united front for progress by shuffling his administration to include former contenders against him, allow for the Kalanthumba people to fully be part of his administration and try to evenly spread development in the whole chiefdom as needed. The Kalanthumba people need a vibrant representation in decision making and the administration itself. Accountability is one of the most important tools in bringing people together therefore; questions raised by the likes of John Conteh should be addressed.

A formal letter to chief with a response from him could make a difference. It should not be seen as a pull him down or work against the chief. The letter should be received as a means of communication for accountability to the people. We should all remember that, a public person is always answerable to the public. This way, the examples from back home will encourage all of us out across the seas to see ourselves as a united front. That we stop worrying about "they might kill me when they see my progress". We should proudly go back home and develop the chiefdom without fear of persecution. I will also second the motion that, you help create a contact means for diasporans with the chief and for him to see diasporans as his brothers/sisters that think of home for development. To put this to work, I suggest we nominate Mr. Mohamed Koroma to be a leader for greater Washington Area, Abass Koroma to be a leader for the Carolinas and Florida then in the summer of 2011 we conduct a BBQ in the Carolinas then in Washington metro for thanksgiving of 2010. Mind you all, one of our sisters (Yabom Sesay is currently the President of the APC Washington chapter and could play a big role in this. Please feel free for suggestions that we all could one day put together for the good of both ourselves and our families back home.

  38. Fellow Descendants, we need to be more proactive in articulating issues borthering our beloved chiefdom. My worries are how many people have access to this website? We need a concerted effort to salvage the present predicament of the chiefdom. We have two multi million companies in the chiefdom. The first one is Salcost and almost doing their final touches. What can the chiefdom boast of as a legacy left behind by Salcost after they leave? Do authorities have to wait until people strike before they give them their dues?
On Wednesday the 17th November,2010, the people of Kamathor had to strike for the lands taken from them for Dam work its related development activites. They were asked to put off the strike and that their case will be looked into. On friday the 18th November 2010 a cheifdom meeting was held in Bumbuna town in which all the demands made by the Kamathor people were all accpted to be honoured. The strike took place because all efforts made to the Paramount Chief proved futile. Since the Paramount Chief failed to addressed the issue the people were only left with the option to strike which made a huge impact.
Now we are having the African Minerals. Do have to wait until the people strike before we can make their dues? We have to act now as i forsee eminent threat for a strike.
Can i ask few questions here for those of you who have access to "The Powers That Be".
1.What is the lease and surface rent or agreement?
    2. How much monies have been paid so far to the chiefdom and landowners? We want the figures if possible and how the monies are been spent.
3.How other benefits made available by African Minerals utilised e.g the scholarship sheme, the vehicle given for low cost transpot fares and the composition of the employment committee.
These are just but a few.
There is a Multi million Company in Bombali District and all monies paid are done in a very transparent manner in which the people are adequately informed about the figures involved and how the monies are been used. Some the development undertaken in the affected chiefdoms are construction of chiefdom police quarters, barries and backlog payments of chiefdom authorities to name a few. Can our three chiefdoms in Tonkolili emulate this good example?
No matter what i say here, the authorities especially the Paramount Chief has a key role to make this happen. He is the sole custodian of the chiefdom.
Descendants, we have a big role to make this happen. Our words must be fully backed with our actions as as "words without actions is a daydream". Lets act now.

  39. Bravo, brovo bravo to the founders of this blog. Whosoevr thought of this, God bless that person.I just recently heard about this block and its amazing to know all what is happening in our chiefdom through this blog.I took my time to go thruogh the comments contributed by colleagues. I am glad that people are open minded to discuss issues affecting the chiefdom. please let keep discussing without malice or prejudice. Thanks to John for highlighting certain issues and thanks also to Selati for clarifying certain issues. This means that we are gradually making progress in finding solutions to our problems back home.

It is also amazing to see how widely spread the descendants of Kalansogoia are in the globe. We can come together through this blog. Let us identify our problems and lets find solutions to these problems through a peaceful and diplomatic means. I personally believe that with united front we can solve our problems. Questions I would like to ask are:
    1. How can we meet in the US, UK,Germany, Holland etc?
    2. How can we be in touch with our people back home? Should there be a credible committee back home that will be meeting with our people(the duty bearers and right holders)?
Let us cretically find answers to these questions. Some suggestions have been made by Sallieu. Sallieu, can you tell us more about the coalition for an equal Kalansogoia? Looking forward to more comments.

    Thanks

  40. Brothers and sisters of Kalansogoia, what can we do about the issues raised on the 23rd of November about the two companies operating in the chiefdom. Selati is doing a great job by been in constant touch with the Paramount Chief to verify issues raised in this blog. I want to join the rest of my colleagues to ask Selati to continue his work with the PC. Lets save the image of the chiefdom from been blackmail. The allegations are serious and need to be addressed by all means.
    Thanks- Daniel Sara Turay

  41. I do need to thank all does following this forum and those contributing to it. It has been an effective tool for getting us all together in one venue even though it is in cyber space. In order to take this a step further I would suggest that we all try to link up with each other on face book in order that we are able to get to know each other better. I would not like to meet any of us on the street and not recognize him or her.

Now to the letter written by Brother Mohamed to the Provincial Secretary. I must first let it be known that; that letter was addressed to the PS and copies of the letter were sent to various law enforcement agencies like anti-corruption. These agencies have legal responsibility to investigate such allegations and we must therefore be selective in whatever we are saying in order not to compromise any action that is in progress. Copies of the letter were also made to state functionaries like The Resident Minister, Northern Province; who are quite capable of dealing with issues raised in the letter.

The PC in Kalansogoia is not beyond reproach and is accountable to the Chiefdom and his subjects. I will now show how this has been demonstrated in the reaction of the people to the letter that was written by Br. Mo. On receipt of the letter, a] A few members of the Koromas demanded for and held a meeting with the PC to grill him on the issues that were raised in the letter. b] They then demanded that a meeting of the larger family be held in order to get the PC to explain the issues to them all and to give answers to questions raised by family members. I can tell you that it was an open and vibrant meeting.

c] The PC then summoned a meeting of all the stakeholders that were resident in the chiefdom who been copied the letter. He opened himself to questioning and gave answers to them.

d] These stake holders then set up a seven man committee to further investigate all the issues raised and to address them. Members of the committee are 1] The Chief Imam, 2] The Rev. Father of the R.C. Church 3] The Rev Pastor of The 1st Baptist Church, Bumbuna, 4] The Chair Lady of all Women Groups in Kalansogoia, 5] The Section Chief of Bumbuna Section to Represent the Section Chiefs 6] A Representative of the Sierra Leone Police Force and 7] A Representative of The Koroma Family.

Brothers and sisters; if this is not accountability, what else is? There are stringent checks and balances in our system. We do need to respect our systems and to help uphold them by supporting them.

  42. My brothers and Sisters of Kalansogoia chiefdom be be informed that a strike is going on in Kemendugu town in which the police has acted in a way contary to their ethics. They shot people at close range which resulted to a counter attack by the people which made many people to suffer wounds and other emergencies. One woman is presently in a critical condition. Authorities have to act now or the situation will get out of hands. The problem is that the African Mineral Company want to construct a mini Dam in the Tonkolili river to supply light in their camp in Feregabaia. The people said they have few lands for their farm work and would not like to compete with the Dam plan. Workers were sent to the site which met tough resisistant from the inhabitants (Kemendugu)of the area. When the police was informed they had no time to talk to people but took the law in their own hands.
The prediction on one of the comments made in November 23, 2010 7:29Pm in the second paragraph has come to past. The writer said if the issues raised in his comments were not acted upon, "that eminent threat for a strike" was on the way. Descendants we have to act fast and people should be more committed in reading the blog and taking the necessary actions to ameliorate the present Chiefdom situation.

    Thanks- Daniel Sara Turay

  43. Fellow Citizens of Kalansogoia, I am writing again to respond to Mr. Selati’s statement on actions taken by the P.C on issues raised by Mr. Mohamed Koroma in his letter addressed to the PS who is a bosom of the P.C. Mr. Selati also attempted to state that a transparent and grilling meeting was held by the Koromas with a followed meeting of descendants residing in Kalansogoia. Mr. Selati ended by stating “Brothers and sisters; if this is not accountability, what else is?”
Here is my take, all descendants from home and abroad must stand up, I mean standup to let the authority in Bumbuna to know that, those days are gone when there was only an educated few. Mr. Selati, what you commented on is not accountability at least in my humble opinion. Mr. M. Koroma’s letter was addressed to the P.S and copied to descendants all around the world. But the P.C chose to address the issue with hand selected people. He called the Koromas to a meeting according to you and I bet you he was the “mediator” in the meeting. Meaning the usual yes “Chief you are right” continued. According to you, the chief conducted a meeting of “stakeholders” consisting of the following people {1] The Chief Imam, 2] The Rev. This is not to discredit any of the listed above but did you notice sectionalism?
Mr. Selati, the chief Imam was only a spectator at the said meeting, the R.C and Baptist pastors where only used to validate a meeting that was held. The section chief was hand selected by the P.C his allied. The police was representing the administration just as they did in the shootings and of course the Koromas had to have somebody in the name Koroma”. What remains a fact is that, the meeting held was not of stakeholders it was a meeting of agreeing stakeholders who always support the P.C. Here are a few thoughts for you and this is one reason why “the coalition for an EQUAL Kalansogoia is needed”. It is gaining momentum and our presence will soon be felt. The list you made all comprised of people from Dansogoia who are either with the chief or can not object to him.

We know the Speaker of the chiefdom is from Kalanthumba why was he not invited to that meeting? We know the Court chairman is from Kalanthumba why was he not invited, we know Daniel Turay has a huge following in Bumbuna and Kalanthumba why was he not invited? We know there are gentle descendants of the chiefdom that reside in Freetown why were they not invited? The heads of the educational institutions were never invited. We know one of the issues raised by Mr. Mohamed was including a section chief that was bullied why was he not invited for a peaceful discussion? We know we have a member of parliament why was he not invited… I can go on and on in listing people that should be called stakeholders. These people could have been used by the P.C to score major points in the overall governing of the chiefdom. The court chairman for example have over 35 years of consistent chiefdom administration from a tax collector to a court Clark, to treasury Clark, to now a chairman…. These people should be of an advantage to the P.C if his moves were really sincere to bringing people together.
As you can read from one of the post of Daniel S. Turay, the chiefdom is becoming ungovernable, there strikes from all points of the chiefdom mainly because, the P.C is so much to his pen and paper form of administration that, his people though uneducated in class, they are starting to rise up for their rights. This is not healthy for progress. We will monitor from afar on the actions of the P.C in dealing with the recent shootings at land owners. His ruler ship could not convince to see a reason to allow a dam and it is a shame that his people were terrorized even at his absence. As a leader, he should have summoned all his section chiefs and stake holders, inform them of the proposal with alternatives, then ask for inputs on a way forward…..thereby giving his people enough notice to humanly deal with the stress of losing their traditional farms. But if the people know of compensations that are never made public, when they see him doing very well but little for the people, then his chiefdom continues to suffer as the most unrestful chiefdom. If he is to man up and be a leader, he should be transparent, respectful of others, form an inclusive administration, make public funds be public funds, work for his people then get the reward of being one of the people. My suggestion is: he must see the chiefdom as a single chiefdom, call for a sincere involvement of the Kalanthumba people, including his contenders, discuss ideas and request inputs so that, when he arrives at a decision the inputs of others are considered. I cannot support more on the request of many for the P.C.’s contact so that people can start to discuss ideas to bring peace with him. A leader must be willing to listen to others; he must have an open mind and should always consult others even with his proclaimed enemies.

  45. My Dear Brothers and Siters,
This forum is what we need right now for the developement of our chiefdom and the country, people should continue to have the right to freedom of expression. As a decendant of Bumbuna who is not part of any of the rulling family, this issues raised as become emmotional to all contributors of this forum.
My advice is lets dialog, turn down the volume and bring in some suggestion our we can improve the lives of the voiceless who need help.
People should start talking and try to help our people collectively, it is only when we all contribute with our resouces to build schools, good road, hospital etc. that our impact is felt by our people.
I am not saying that we should not be discussing about African Minirals or Salcost or the Chief but also what have you done for the chiefdom? All of us in the Diaspora are having good times with our families, driving expensive cars, enjoyed what the what other people have suffered to created why dont we try to develope our chiefdom and country instead we keep dueling in the SUV African miniral has provided for the chiedom, we all can do better than this.

    KEEP BUMBUNA ALIVE!!!!!!!

  46. This forum is just outstanding! i agree that, we should look for solutions to the problems we have back home and that starts with accountability from the leadership down to the ordinary man. I believe the reason behind people pointing out African Minerals and Salcost is because, they are currently 99% of the income generated in the chiefdom and these companies make good faith efforts to help the ordinary people however, the administration is what is causing the alarm they pocket every thing and expect the people to continue with the yes Sir!. Each and every contribution made be these companies should be public funds except as noted. We will all agree that, even though we live abroad and drive expensive cars, they remain owned by banks credited to us. Even the houses we claim to own we still credit for years to come. My point is, as we try to organize our resources to help as needed, accountability must be first established. I don't know about you but for me, i need to know where my dime is spent when i give it up for charity.

we can do better of course with or without those companies but we have to be united first! I suggest that the chiefdom be treated equally. This is not a matter of ruling house it is rights of basic tax payers who are supposed to be governed by one chief. Selati the Virtual chief of Kalansogoia needs to clone himself and learn his brother to be a uniter. It will do us no good if we hide from the facts.

How can you justify shooting live bullets at land owners? how can a choosen few decide the fate of the voiceless?. As suggested by other comments, all descendants should register thru the blog admin and create a list from where people could be contacted for a way forward.

keep Bumbuna Alive! keep Kalansogoia EQUAL!

  47. Brothers and Sisters of Kalansogoia, i want all of us to know that we have a moral duty to pay back to our people in diverse ways. The problems of the Chiefdom are complex and need to be faced squarely. We all need to "Tell the Truth" not blowing horns for people. The truth of the matter is that we have gone some where wrong and untill we unearth that which we have done wrong the problem/s will continue to play. We need to confess and repent of our sins.
The fact is we failed to tell the truth during the Paramount Chieftaincy elections and this has had an adverse effect on the relationships and peace of the chiefdom. We treat ouselves now with suspision each time we enter into any transaction. This is grossly demonstrated by the Paramount Chief as Kalanthuba people continue to be exonerated in Committees representation and other important chiefdom matters. The representation is so small that they hardly make an impact in Committee meetings because of the level of expose and education of those selected. The Paramount Chief in one of hie letters when i was appointed Chairman Board of Governors for the secondary school declared me as his dangerous enemy. I am looking for the opportunity when credible religious people will bring the two of us to a peace talk. I look forward to whoever is going to facilitate that. I think this will be one step to having a wayout to some of the problems as Daniel has a big stake in the chiefdom. This is my humble submission.
    Thanks- Daniel Sara Turay

I would like to thank all of you for the comments. I am unknown to most of my kinsmen abroad but I congratulate you all on your various exploits and achievements and I have you in my prayers always. The issues touching and concerning our chiefdom are complex, not limited to Politics and have to be treated with the utmost caution and care. I humbly think and will submit that we be very measured in our approach in trying to thrash out the issues.
The companies in our chiefdom are not the lifeline of our people. I am not underestimating the importance of their presence by any means but I think there is more to it than that. What are we doing to sensitise our people to start engaging in some form of commercial farming that will make them self-reliant as they'll be self-employed? What are we doing for our brothers and sisters who are not educated? Shouldn't we start encouraging them to go to school and claim a stake in the operations of these companies in the near future? Must we start imposing on these companies a condition that the descendants of the chiefdom(s) be prioritised in their recruitment processes when we quite well know that the vast majority of our kinsmen are uneducated, insufficiently educated or unskilled? Are we being honest at that against the backdrop of the fact that the said companies have to make commercial decisions in their operations? Should we be oblivious of the fact that our people need to be educated and sensitised about the dangers they pose to the environment by felling all the forest trees which used to complement the beauty of our dear Bumbuna and give it its serene atmosphere? Must not we educate our brothers on the adverse effects of burning machines which cost over a million US dollars? Is this not an act that potentially undermines the operations of the Company affected and therefore have many negative ramifications on the progress of our chiefdom and the country as a whole? ...these and many more questions give me sleepless nights.

I think we must stop the name-calling, accusations and counter accusations, recriminations and forget the blame game. I am thrilled about this forum and elated that we are able to read from our brothers from far and wide. You would agree with me that the development, peace and tranquillity of our chiefdom, district and Country is paramount to any sentiments we bear. I agree there are issues we must settle to bring about better cohesion in our home...let us engage in reconciliatory moves to harness our vast human and other invaluable recourses for a better and prosperous chiefdom.

Love you all. God richly bless you.

  49. Brothers and Sisters of Kalansogoia, I am happy to report that Brima a legal pratitioner has come on board with some salient points we have to look into if we want to see the Chiefdom develop. I want to suggest for us in Sierra Leone and for those coming for christmas holiday to join our people in this year's X-mas celebrations. I want to suggest that we hold a big chiefdom meeting after the christmas celebrations say the 27th or 28th December. All descendants of the chiefdom outside Bumbuna should endeavour to at least attend the meeting. We all should come home with open minds to accept and take responsibility for whatever one is find to have made that contributes in what is going on in the chiefdom.
The chiefdom is faced with a lot of problems. A situation most of us never witnessed ten years back. This to a very large extent tells us that we now live in a Global Village and so we have to be very careful with our dealings with people.
I again want to ask Selati to continue to do his PRO job between descendants and the Paramount Chief to support this move and to also help with his chiefs to be part of the proposed programme. We have to stop politiking now and turn to a new page for the development of the chiefdom.
    Thank you all.
    Daniel Sara Turay.

  50. I'm posting this comment again because the one I posted this morning is not coming up. I thank Daniel for furnishing us with info on current events at home. I've been encouraging people to keep in touch with our people so as to be able to give us adequate info about what is happening. We shouldn't leave the gathering of info to a few while others stand on the sides in order to pop criticism at those who are doing their best to inform us.
I am pleased that Brima has also weighed in with some salient contribution into this discussion. We're getting people with balanced views to help make this debate a progressive one.
John, I advise that you make the effort to read and understand my contribution properly. This is because your responses to my post appear to show that you've not properly understood what I'm posting. If we cannot understand what others are posting on this blog and are responding out of context, what hope do we have of understanding the complex issues that our people face on a day to day basis?
I will refer you again to my post on the letter. A]The first meeting was not summoned by the PC. It was demanded for by a cross-section of the Koroma Family when they learnt of the letter.
B]The second meeting was again demanded for by this group in order to get the other members of the family informed and to give them the opportunity to get the air cleared.
C] The third meeting was a meeting of all the stake holders resident in the Chiefdom who were copied. They are not people handpicked by the PC but by the author of the letter.
D]The committee that was set up was one consisting of officials in the chiefdom. The PC has no role in the appointment of at least 4 of these. John, in future; make the effort to read and comprehend my input as I do not have time to repeat myself. Time is precious. I will further advice you to have the utmost respect for our religious leaders. It is a mark of gross disrespect to them for you to imply that they are 'yes men' who have been incorporated into a committee to give it credibility. They have views and are not yes men. For your information The Rev. Pastor of the Baptist Church hails from Kamathor. Try to move from Sectionalism as seems to be prevalent in your contributions. This is going to do us no good.
It is true that there was a disturbance in Kemendugu last week over the dam that the company wants to construct on the Tonkolili river. During this strike, 5 foreign workers and 2 local workers were held hostage by the strikers. They were only released after a joint police and military operation. A rig costing US$1.2million was set alight and destroyed. Investigations are still in progress. The reason for the strike according to the strikers is that some of their lands have already been taken and they have not been paid for those lands. They were demanding payments from the company for lands that are already being used by the company. I can inform readers that no monies have been paid for these lands. The monies that are being paid out are those the company is paying as compensation for people who have plantations on the lands where roads are being passed. These payments are made directly to owners of these plantations through employees of the company known as CLOs[community liaison officers]. I must stress that The PC has nothing to do with these payments.
Daniel, I want to comment on the personal relationship between you and the PC. The only thing standing between you two is your personal ego. You've worked together in the past and I know you two to be of the highest integrity. Your love and concern for our Chiefdom and our people is second to none. You know it and you know that the problems thrown up by the Chieftaincy elections are only going to be resolved when you accept that you both have the same aspirations and intentions and start working together. We will talk about that.
I will continue to try and get information to bring to us all to enable us to make informed decisions.May God Bless You All.

  51. I'm grateful for the comments which seem to be narrowing down to some common ground.

My view is that our people, out of some sort of ignorance or misconception have buckled in a major way by going to such extent, holding workers of AML hostage and burning such an expensive machine. Should one compare the amount of money 'allegedly' owed them by the said company to the cost of the destroyed machine you will all agree with me that one would realise that the latter dwarfs the former in multiple folds. This will never be a good omen for the development strides of the Chiefdom and Country as a whole. This action is therefore not only foolhardy and illintentioned but is also a dangerous precedent that must be condemned by all and a recurrence of which must never be contemplated or encouraged by any means. It's a shame that we are making the headlines for the wrong reasons here. I think we must shed off all sentiments and sensitise our people using our community radio station 'Radio Numbara'in all our local languages inorder to disuade them from undertaking such rebellious actions in the future. We should also assist the company and Government in the investigation of the perpetrators of this act.

It's high time our people sought legal advice before engaging in any transactions regarding the Leasing or sale of their lands or any part thereof. Some of these things may be averted.

I invite suggestions from my brothers and sisters around the world as to the way forward on this and many other important issues.

    God bless you all.

Esq. Brima, you actually are a counsel to the blog, you said it all in your statement that, “It's high time our people sought legal advice before engaging in any transactions regarding the Leasing or sale of their lands or any part thereof. Some of these things may be averted”. Could our people be encouraged for them to have legal representation in dealing with their lands? All we have seen so far is a single custodian that does things in an autocratic manner and expects the best to happen. Well sorry, the modern age does not accommodate such things as “I am the know it all”! I will suggest that as stated above that, our leaders back home seek the interest of the companies without compromising the peoples traditional and human rights.
Esq. Brima also suggested commercial farming with is an astonishing suggestion but again here is an extract from AML what happen to these tractors?
    Tonkolili
As the project in Tonkolili advances, African Minerals is leading the way in social redevelopment and cultural strengthening. The Company has taken a leading role in advising on a local agricultural programme designed to encourage the sustainable farming of produce, not only to feed the growing mining community at the Tonkolili camp but to sell to other villages and abroad. As part of these efforts, African Minerals has donated tractors and other farming equipment to the local community to assist with agricultural development.
Furthermore, the Company has provided free medical consultations in the event of emergencies, provided a generator for the local Port Loko district council, donated a Toyota Landcruiser to the village of Kalansogoia, and built a major bridge to facilitate transportation between Tonkolili and Koinadugu.

Brima also raised the issue of education:
    Education
In the first half of 2009, African Minerals awarded 800 scholarships to local children in the Tonkolili District to attend Junior and High School. This represents about 30% of the region's children. They were selected by the individual Chiefdom and District Committees, composed of local chiefs, Members of Parliament of the District and community leaders in the Chiefdoms and District. To further their education, the Company also provided books, pencils, crayons, blackboards and school uniforms to these children.
Mr. Selati, let me finish by reminding you at this point that we currently reside outside of our home town mostly because we wanted to seek greener pastures elsewhere. Unfortunately, we all easily forget the value of criticism and opposition, the development in this western world did not come without criticism and opposition. Some could be constructive others could be otherwise, but the wise man picks the wisdom from the foolish. AS a result, progress is made from the nonsense.
Mr. Selati as a way forward how about you facilitate a peace meeting between Daniel and PC using Esq. Brima and David Sesay. I am suggesting you because, again because of you strong link with the PC, you might be able to tamper the past. Let’s focus on the issues.

    Thank you all

  55. I am happy that people are begining to realise the need for Peace Talk to be facilitated between the Paramount Chief and Daniel Sara Turay. I have been saying this to highly placed authorities but they seem to down play the whole idea by telling me to be patient but will not relent my efforts. God is my witness and the world will one day know the truth to the problem between the PC and DST. I am with the conviction that it will happen as long as we are determine to see it happen. All i will ask all of us is to stop the dirty politics and begin to "Hit the Nail on the Head". This means telling the both of us the truth. I am open to any suggestion that will fast track the peace talk between PC and myself. God bless you as you plan for this laudable venture.

  56. Daniel Turay...... please don't beg for peace between you and a hard headed PC. Wait for peace to come! Do not betray your people. If people want true peace to come, they will facilitate it between you. Very decent people are now following the blog and will most likely bring you together provided the PC will now want to be a leader not a ruler as noted by other bloggers.

i see the importance of peace between you as a huge step for peace in the chiefdom wherein you will well represent the administration and it will make history for both of you to be in one administration.

    Lets hope for the best.

  57. Thank you all for the comments so far. I can clearly see that we are making some progress.
I must commend Brima for his input and I must also thank John for his keen interest in contributing to this blog. John, I am all for pushing at the boundaries through critical analysis of the facts on the basis of a thorough understanding of the facts. It is only when we do this that we can come to constructive decisions using the ideas that emanate from such criticism.
I want to inform readers of this blog that of the things that John is claiming to have been done by African Minerals, there are a lot of inaccuracies. AM never supplied tractors. Tractors were supplied by the Govt under the initiative launched by our President towards food self-sufficiency. Our tractor was collected by the PC and was used in the last farming season. 500 scholarships were awarded by the company. What is being done by the company has been negotiated by The PC in conjunction with other chiefdom functionaries. He is not doing it on his own. We must also note that even though the lion's share of the mining is being done in our chiefdom, there are two other chiefdoms involved and we must always put that in the equation.
I can assure that I have strong relationships with The PC, Daniel and Samuel Tisseh. This puts me in a unique position to be able to address any issues involving this trio as they can all relate to me without any suspicions or feelings of unfairness. I will try and push this as soon as possible. It is an important mission and needs to be tackled with tact. So I need space.
Brima, I know you have an excellent relationship with the PC. Can you please discuss this idea of legal representation for the people with him? The least we can have is some legal mind in the negotiating team.
Bye 4 now until the next.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Thanks bro Selati for the commendation. Yes I relate with the PC well, probably as a result of the little contributions I have been making here and there to better the lot of our people. I also have a very good relationship with Mr. Daniel S. Turay and other well meaning elders of our beloved Chiefdom like Dr. Brima Kargbo who is and has always been a shining example and a complete mix of success, humility and who carries a heart as open and as crystal as diamond. May I confess here for the benefit of all in this blog that I have held some discussions (very frank ones at that) with both sides of the Political divide in our Chiefdom and they seem to have some common goal in mind, some negotiated settlement to whatever wranglings there may have been. It is gathering momentum as I comment all we have to do, I humbly suggest is to make wide consultations amongst our brothers and sisters for a meeting to be arranged between them.

I talk to both on the phone regularly since we do not live in the same town at present and I'm sure there shoud be no need for any suspicion ffrom either side as I'm neither related to one nor I'm I a member of one of the Ruling Houses. Will surely discuss the idea of legal representation for our people so that we revisit some of the transactions and plan better for future ones. I feel flattered by the suggestion though.

I pray that we keep the flame burning, the criticsms have been interest if sometimes grinding and i thak bro. John for his dedication to the forum and to all for the keen interest in bettering the welfare of our home.

    Stay blessed.

    ...Brima

  59. I want to make myself very clear that i am not begging for peace but rather want to see an end to the mess going on in our beloved chiefdom. I see myself as one that can make a meaningful contribution to either minimise or bring an end to all the misunderstandings and misconceptions going on the chiefdom. I am in constant touch with Brima but want to leave it to him. The other reason for my interest in peace is that i want to follow the dictates of the Bible as a christian. I hope i have made myself clear for the thirst for peace. I am also doing it to satisfy my conscience and the God i worship.
    Thanks- Daniel Sara Turay.

  60. I will like to thank the creator of this blog.
Brothers and sisters it is very good that we support the course of this blog, to be able to connect and make a different, to recognize people from the chiefdom who are making a difference in people's live,we need to emulate their example. We will also want to promote our cheifdom with great ideas. The blog is great if we use it for the right purpose, from all the discussion I have read I know we all love our chiefdom and concern for our people so we need to unite and help promote our chifdom.
    Please keep the flame burning!!!!!!!

    KEEP BUMBUNA ALIVE!!!!!!!!
LET CELEBRATE MADAM YABOM SESAY (DAUGHTER OF PA ALIMAMY SESAY) FROM BUMBUNA FOR MAKING HISTORY TO BECOME THE FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT FOR THE LARGEST APC CHAPTER IN NORTH AMERICA

    ReplyDelete
  61. I would like to congratulate Madam Yabom Sesay on her recent achievement and pray she makes more inroads in the Western world to further emphasise the Bumbuna’s place on the world map. I entertain no doubt in what she can deliver and this goes to underscore the point that we have a great reservoir of talent, intellect and power.
We are keeping a close eye on happenings both at home and abroad. May I suggest few things using this blog? My dream is for us all to set up a kind of trust fund financed by annual contributions from all well meaning descendants of Bumbuna and Kalansogoia Chiefdom as a whole to help kick start the development of our beloved home. We could start by assisting the community Radio station ‘Radio Numbara’ which would be a good vehicle of education and information for our people; render some assistance to the Secondary Schools in Bumbuna one of which is headed by a young indigene in the name of Mrs. Theresa Mabinty Jalloh “nee Conteh” who has made a lot of sacrifice to leave all the opportunities open to her upon obtaining a Masters Degree for the sake of developing the Home Land. I cannot now catalogue all that she has done for the school (Saint Matthew’s Secondary School), suffice it to say that she is breaking a lot of ground and would need the unflinching support of all; the medical centre in Bumbuna is moribund and not fit for its purpose which needs an overhaul. Some well meaning indigenes like Dr. Brima Kargbo and Mrs. Yabom E. Kanu (nee Sesay) and the “Sesay Family” have been doing their bit to improve the status quo of the said centre but it still needs an overhaul . We could also use such funds to help our people improve their faming skills. I pay tribute to Trivens and the ‘Kargbo Family’ for their efforts in assisting our people.
The reason for my proposal is because an informed people will be a powerful people; an educated youth will be a potent force in the developmental strides of our Chiefdom; a healthy community will be a productive one and a community of knowledgeable farmers will have food security.
This is food for thought as we could set ourselves some benchmarks and start putting our mouths where our money is. I believe this will give us greater moral authority to claim a stake in the affairs of our beloved chiefdom.
    God bless you all.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Brima, I want you to continue to offer your legal advice to the people of this country and Kalansogoia in particular. We are begining to know the people who have the chiefdom at heart. Patriotsm is not determined by words but by actions. We will know as we forge ahead with the plans to bring stakeholders, descendants and authorities of the two companies together to a two days training campaign for the way forward tousher in peace in the chiefdom. You will be contacted at anytime the plan is put together. Brima you are coming up with salient points but lets have first things first and other issues will follow. We need to restore peace, trust and confidence which has been very much missen the past years. We all need to be determine and think positively about our moves to seeing a united Kalansogoia. Remember, " WE BECOME WHAT WE THINK ABOUT" if we mean business. God bless you all.

  63. Thank you all who are so far contributing to this blog. The discussions here are now actually going in the desired direction. Let's keep it up. At this point I would like to point out the fact that we've not heard from BROTHER MOHAMED for sometime. As he is the originator of this blog and one of our respected elder brothers, I think we do need to hear from him once in a while. His voice of wisdom is of importance to us all.
I must take this opportunity to thank Daniel, Brima and John for their regular contribution. Your invaluable contribution is making this forum really worthwhile.
Brothers and Sisters, let's not blow the discord amongst us out of proportion. There is more holding us together than is actually putting us apart. I must also thank DST for putting the record straight and telling people why he desires peace. His reasons are honorable; his purpose laudable and his aims outstanding. Let no one insinuate that he is grovelling for peace.
Brima, John and Daniel can you help summarize what we've had here so far? I would suggest that we have two categories. 1) Points that need to be clarified and 2) Actions and ideas that we need to work on. It is important that we do this once in a while so we do not loose ideas in the ether of our discussion.

    May God bless you all.

  64. Fellow brothers and sisters in the struglle to find a lasting solution to the problems of our belowed chiefdom. I am presently working on a training campaign proposal on the attitudinal change concept for the development of Mama Kalansogoia. This is a way to create a forum where by frank discussion will be facilitated to look into some of the root causes to the problems facing the chiefdom and the way forward. I hope to get it finished by tomorrow and will post it in bits in the blog. I expect that Descendants, the two companies and other well meaning Sierra Leoneans will contribute financially to ensure the implementation of the proposal. Selati you will have to help with the guys in Europe to make their contribution and Mohamed for the guys in United States, Thomas Gbassy Conteh, Sara N. Koroma(AKK) and my humble self will handle the Sierra Leone side.I hope this makes sense to you.
    Daniel Sara Turay.

  65. Fellow brothers and sisters, those of you with emails i know have sent you the proposed training proposal for Kalansogoia Chief. You are all expected to contribute to this noble course of our beloved Mama Kalansogoia. If you know you have not received it, i advice that you send me your email address through mine (dsturay@yahoo.co.uk). I hope this will be of help to you. Thank you all.

  66. Ladies and Gentlemen,
Why the long silence? Please keep Bumbuna!!!! with some interesting topics for our beloved Chiefdon. Mr Turay it is your contribution to the Chiefdom to trian people on attitudinal change. Let call a spade a spade I will not put a dime to that venture you can either work with the local government Ministry or do the training yourself. Please don't let people turn their back away from this blog and what we stand for.We will all support your peace agenda for the interest of the chiefdom.

Fellow Decendant we should support the courses to provide scholarship, improve schools, roads, hospital etc that Brima Koroma esq.whom I admire as my younger brother mentioned.

  68. COMPLIMENTS OF THE SEASON TO ALL MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS AROUND THE GLOBE.
It's been a while since i last posted a comment on this blog. Was out of town but now I'm back.
I would like to thank Bro Selaty for his suggestions. I will work towards summarising the key issues raised within this blog.
Having spoken to either side of our political and ideological recently, I entertain no doubt that they both desire peace and very much look forward to a round-table dialogue for reconciliation. The question now is who will broker such talks? When? Where?

Against this backdrop i crave the indulgence of our elders to do something to end this division in our beloved home.

    God bless you all.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I again sincerly see a true purpose for peace and the end to that divide. Mr Selati, as noted by Brima, we have a chance in hand to fully bring those key brothers together. I have just been notified that, Mr Mohamed Koroma whom was recently disrespect by the P.C have departed the U.S to Kalansogoia. I believe it is your position to make your contacts to bring Daniel, the PC and Mohamed Koroma to a single table. I have made contacts with Mr Mohamed for a possible peaceful discussion with the PC and Daniel Turay. I really just wish to be anonymous for now but do my best in helping the peace initiative. If we agree on a contibution to facilitate the talks i will be more than happy to do my share. I am a brother of all but just wish for myself to be anonymous.

I also support the need for a track on ideas and points to be addressed well so that we all can be focused. The fact remains that, we should all first address the divide issue, then look for prospects for development. Lets do peace first, then suggestion on which development project is of high priority, then we will form a force at home and abroad to run a smooth and transparent link to our people.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Ladies and Gents as i follow this blog, i in my opinion see two attempts; First is, a defensive Selati who sees nothing wrong with his brother's administration in the chiefdom, a Selati, that is trying to manupilate this blog by going agrieved when truth is said about his brothers true colors(the PC). I also see a Daniel Turay that tends to manupilate the blog to stir to his "attitudinal change theme". Althought attitude is important, in all we do, PEACE in the land is paramount. This is the only way the government could respect our leaders. We must work very hard in making sure the concerned parties are brought together in peace to allow a properous Kalansogoia. The PC by popular indication, needs to come out of his school teaching attitude and enter the reins of a paramount chief. It is no magic, he needs to consult where he could use his seniors in local administration and still get the credit for good judgement. A test of his will is when they can convey in peace with his brothers of different ideologies.

As posted by the later blogger, if all the concerned parties are within reach in Sierra Leone, they must be contacted without delay. Lets make suggestions on who will handle the who, when and what questions of Brima. I am slo willing to contribute towards a peace for all day in the chiefdom. Lets get the suggestions flowing.

    thank you all

    Salieu Conteh Stuttgart Germany

    ReplyDelete
  71. Mr Selati, you have gone quiet! i hope you are well and things are good. But again we have to be serious and update all on the peace initiative. Bloggers have posted news of a three party talk possibility and we have not heard from you since. Now that Koroma, Daniel and the PC are in the same land fall it is critical that, we act swiftly if we mean a real end to the divide. Your inputs will help educate all on the recent. Brima and those special people, if you are all aware of any developments thus far could we be updated please?

    thanks for you extra efforts.
    Salieu Conteh Stuttgart Germany

    ReplyDelete
  72. I appreciate Bro Salieu's offer to assist in bringing about peace. The storm that's gathering will do us no good; the wranglings will only further deepen the seeming grudges and continue to plunge our people into a state of abyss and utter uncertainty as to who will prepare the way for a better and proper forum and/or manner to vent out any grievances they may bear in future.

We could also think of a mediator (some witty neutralist who is not from the chiefdom? I read an article a couple of days ago wherein I learnt that a Mr. Bundu, one of the Leaders of of TODDA - Tonkolili District Descendants Association, is coming from the UK to investigate the circumstances of the recent strike action at Kemedugu. It might be a golden opportunity to start involving people like him...just my humble way of thinking aloud though.

It's really sad that two very prominent contributors to the blog have gone a bit silent-Bros. John and Selati. I was always very eager to read from them the next morning. Hope all is well with them though. Please let's keep the flame burning we will make a difference...

    FELIS NAVIDAD.

    God bless us all.

  73. Fellow brothers and sisters, bellated seasons greetings. This is just to give you an update on the current state of affairs in Kalansogoia Chiefdom. We held a meeting on the 27th of December to discuss the workshop proposal in which few descendants were asked to chair the brainstorming session but nobody was prepared to do it and i was asked by the members present to chair the meeting. In my opening statements, i made it abundantly clear that the meeting was specifically summoned to discuss issues borthering the chiefdom and not personalities. Also, to discuss ways how we can raise money for the workshop. It was indeed interesting as a lot of people made pledges which almost amounted to over a million leones.
It is sad to let readers know that few people who were not present in the meeting misunderstood the whole idea of the workshop that it was against the Paramonut Chief. To be specific, Alimamy Koroma had to go to Sara N. Koroma alias AKK house to confront him. Unfortunately, AKK was not home. Alimamy said a lot of negative statements about the meeting to the gentleman's wife. This is just one example among others who think they can continue to use their strategies to stifle peoples efforts in calvanising development ventures. I want to make myself very clear that i am no longer prepared to yeild to anybody underming my efoorts to help bring sanity to the chiefdom. I will always endeavour to use my expertise to who work with people who want to help develop mama Kalansogoia. We have to stop the dirty games and work towards a United Kalansogoia. I hope i have made myself clear. Daniel Sara Turay

If you want to know more about the forum, you may need to contact me either by phone or by email. For the sake of privacy and security, our forum is not accessible on line like this one here. Then I must, right from the onset, make this point clear: anything anonymous has no place in our forum. For the forum is meant to gather ideas and initiatives from all members as we chat the way forward for our township and chiefdom. This is only one of our administrative rules on the forum. Feel free to contact me. It is time to make a difference in our region. A time to get drawn ahead and be saved, or to get left behind and be lost.
